The SCORE Baja 1000 is an 821-mile race, beginning and ending in Ensenada, Mexico, consisting of high-speed desert crossings, technical, rocky mountain trails, silt beds, washes, ditches and jumps. Despite reduced visibility due to an increased amount of dust an fog, which caused more than half of the original 239 entrants to drop out, Honda's Ridgeline Baja ran trouble free, taking home a Class 2 victory in a time of 25 hours, nine minutes and 47 seconds.
The race truck was piloted by the trio of Jeff Proctor, Sage Marie and Jason LaFortune. Proctor, driver and owner of Proctor Racing Group, commented on the circumstances of the race, saying: "The course was extremely tough today, and it seemed like Baja threw everything it could at us, but the Ridgeline ran flawlessly all day. We couldn't be happier with how it performed on its maiden voyage."
Honda is expected to release details of an updated, second-generation Ridgeline sometime in the first half of 2016. The Ridgeline Baja, which was intended as a preview of the upcoming truck, is powered by twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine, featuring the same block, crankshaft, and cylinder heads expected in the 2017 model.
Honda's growing lineup of light trucks already includes the HR-V, CR-V, and Pilot.
