With the discontinuation of one model often comes the creation of another. Such is exactly the case of the now retired Honda Civic Type R and its spiritual successor, the Honda CR-Z sports-hybrid coupe. And while we're especially happy that this transition resulted in American drivers getting a taste of the action (the Honda Civic Type R was never offered here in the United States), we can understand why some performance purists might miss the iconic compact's style and performance.

...And for that matter, so can Honda. The Big H was recently spotted testing what looks to be a new version of the Civic Type R only two years after it was discontinued.

But how can we be so sure it's a Civic Type R that they're resting? There are two ways. First, the spy shots taken of the new vehicle depict a Civic that's fitted with a prominent rear wing, larger exhaust outlets, and sleeker front-end grille, all of which are hallmarks of the Type R. Second, the pictures were taken at the Nürburgring in Germany. And when you want to test a performance-driven car, you test it there.

Of course, this all begs the question of whether or not Honda plans to bring the revived Type R to the United States. In the end, we'll simply have to wait and see what they say. After all, Honda still hasn't even confirmed that they are indeed developing a new version of the Type R. Nevertheless, you can count on East Coast Honda, located at 8756 A Highway 17 Bypass South Myrtle Beach, SC 29588 to keep you updated on this one.
