The 2013 Honda Fit EV will arrive at Honda dealer showrooms across the United States in the near future. However, before this model can be sold it must pass the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program. You may have already caught wind of this news, but the first Honda Fit EV is already going through real-world assessments in Torrance, CA. Recently, two of these models were sent to Google headquarters and Stanford University to undergo further testing.

Wasn't the Honda Fit EV unveiled in 2011? This is true, Honda introduced the model last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The Japanese Automaker is dedicated to carrying out the Honda Electric Vehicle Demonstration Program before model is offered throughout the country is so that Honda can recognize all of the distinct challenges and opportunities that come along with battery-electric technology.

Steve Carter, VP Environmental Business Development Office, American Honda explains, "Honda has a long history with electric vehicles, beginning with the introduction of our first battery-electric car, the EV Plus, nearly 15 years ago. Honda's experience and the unique feedback that Google, Stanford University and the city of Torrance will provide will be valuable to the future introduction of battery-electric technology."1

As the location of the 2013 Honda Fit EV tests suggest, the final production model will hit select west coast markets first, starting later this summer. By next spring, it's expected to be available in select east coast markets as well.
