If you have been following the East Coast Honda blog the past month you definitely are familiar with our brands efforts to save drive-in movie theaters across the country.  The Project Drive-In initiative is in full swing as the Japanese automaker is handing out state-of-the-art digital projectors left and right.

Originally there were only five theaters to win the new technology from Honda, all of which were voted by fans.  Joining the first theater, which was in Saco, Maine, a long list is now beginning to assemble, with one theater being in our home state of South Carolina.

Excluding the Saco Drive-In, the list currently looks like this:

  • 99W Drive-In, Newberg, Oregon
  • McHenry Outdoor Theater, McHenry, Illinois
  • Cherry Bowl Drive-In, Honor, Michigan
  • Graham Drive-In, Graham, Texas
  • Monetta Drive-In, Monetta South Carolina
  • Ocala Drive-In, Ocala, Florida
  • Starlite Drive-In, Cadet, Missouri
  • Stateline Drive-In, Elizabethton, Tennessee

The Monetta Drive-In is the closest to us here in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, however it is still a few hours inland.

Money is also being raised in the form of a 2014 Honda Odyssey Touring Elite being sold on the Project Drive-In website.  The profit will go towards more projectors for other theaters across the country.

Honda's commitment to this charity shows how much the brand cares about the classic form of film and the fun family atmosphere that surrounds it.  We hope our brand continues to reach out across the country to help more theaters, and look forward to hearing about the project as it expands even more.
