No matter which team they may be a loyal to, hockey fans across the country have one thing in common for certain: they are all excited for this year's NHL season to start up in October. Honda is excited as well. The automaker has just renewed its NHL partnership and will continue to be the league's official automobile.
Honda's partnership with the NHL has existed since 2008. The company's renewed contract with the NHL is predicted to be extended until 2014. Given that both companies see eye to eye on brand allegiance and terms, the contract may be renewed again in 2014. Neither, Honda nor the NHL have revealed the financial terms at this point in time.
One of the agreements that Honda and the NHL have involves the NHL league awards. Honda will continue to serve as the presenting sponsor for the NHL Super Skills even and NHL All-Star MVP for the next two NHL All-Star weekends held in the U.S. In exchange, the NHL will give Honda in-ice brand exposure, dasherboard branding, and in-arena ad spots, among many marketing/advertising perks.
Tom Payton, Honda's Brand Manager, thinks that Honda and the NHL's partnership is a perfect match, because they share a demographic, which Payton describes as, "young, affluent and educated."1 Keith Wachtecl, SVP Integrated Sales, NHL, agrees. He says, "Honda has been a great partner for the NHL, supporting hockey at every level and we look forward to continuing to align ourselves with a leader in the automotive industry..."1
